Superlative - Boundary Breaks Cabernet Franc 2024

Boundary Breaks, a quality wine producer on on 120 acres of the east side of Seneca Lake in New York's Finger Lakes region, is owned by Bruce Murray and Diana Lyttle. Founded in 2008 by Murray, a former publishing and tech industry professional, the winery has an excellent reputation for making high-quality whites - especially Riesling and Gewürztraminer, They are exceptional wines.

Recently at the Cab Franc Forward event in New York City, I tasted their recent Cab Franc offerings. I was pleasantly surprised. The Boundary Breaks Rose' Dry 2024 had soft notes of Bing cherry and fresh strawberries with cut lemon and lovely slate notes. The Boundary Breaks Cabernet Franc Reserve 2024 is 100% Cabernet Franc was reserved and well balanced. Nice complexity and lovely fruit. Restrained and austere. A very nice wine.
Bruce and the Boundary Breaks Cabernet Franc

But the wine that really blew me away was the Boundary Breaks Cabernet Franc 2024. This wine is made from 95% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot. The wine has an incredible nose of cherry and strawberry and plum. Notes of spice and lovely fruit. A smooth, easy drinking red, begging to be paired with food. This was a superlative Cabernet Franc. Low tannins, soft but quenching acidity. Easy drinking, with great fruit, but with layers of complexity and flavor. A terrific wine and one of my favorites of the the tasting.
