Heron Hill has always made some very nice wines. And I have loved the Ingle Vineyard designation since I first tasted it some time ago. Heron Hill Winery was established in 1977 by John and Josephine Ingle. As a pioneer in the Finger Lakes wine region of New York, it was one of the first farm-wineries on Keuka Lake, with vineyards first planted in 1972.
I was at the Prince Georges Ballroom earlier this month for the Cab Franc Forward event in New York City. While I was there I tasted the Heron Hill Cabernet Franc Ingle Vineyard 2002. The wine is made by former winemaker Jordan Harris.
I was immediately impressed. This big, deep, dark rich wine was aged for 10 months in second use French oak and neutral French Oak. The dark cherry and dark red raspberry, red cassis, and notes of plum were intense and beautifully layered. A truly excellent wine and one of the best wines of the tasting.
An outstanding Cab Franc from Heron Hill!
