Before Henry Hudson lent his name to the Hudson River, it was known as “the water that is never still,” an ode to the impatient, ever changing tide of the Empire State’s main waterway.
The Neverstill Wines journey began in 1994 when Christy Counts fell in-love with John Williams' “Frog’s Leap” Winery of Napa Valley. In 2014, Christy and her husband Ben Morton relocated to Bedford, New York, and began exploring the Finger Lakes Wine Region. In 2020, Christy educated herself in wine, achieving advanced certification through the Wine Spirit & Education Trust (WSET).
By 2022, Christy and Ben found themselves spending more time in Hudson, New York, attracted by its vibrant art, antiques, and culinary scene. She decided it was the perfect place for the tasting room. That same year, Christy’s path crossed with Nova Cadamatre, the well-known Master of Wine who was rapidly growing her own wine brands. The two women hit it off quickly; and Nova joined the team as winemaker. During the first harvest in 2023, Bryce Lianna officially joined the team as Assistant Winemaker. Today, Craig Hosbach of Fox Run is making the wines for Neverstill.
To be...Neverstill Pet Nat 2024 Pétillant Naturel is a tasty and refreshing blend of 96% Cayuga White and 4% Riesling, harvested from the Finger Lakes. A perfect, light, bright fizz!
The Neverstill Chenin Blanc 2023 is made from a blend of two vineyard sites located adjacent to Seneca Lake: Neverstill's estate Hidden View vineyard situated at a higher elevation, with gentle eastern facing slopes, and Gibson vineyard, further south, at a lower elevation. Big notes of green apple, fresh lemon, and hints of lime and nectarine, and some light floral notes. And a hint of spice. Crisp, fresh, and zippy. Delicious!
The Neverstill Riesling 2023 is 100% Riesling combining clones 12 and 20. The Hidden View vineyard (in the Finger Lakes) was planted in 2019 to three different clones of Riesling across three acres. This is a fragrant Riesling with notes of tropical fruits, honeydew, lychee, green apple, and a great finish of lemon and lime. An outstanding, classic semi-sweet Riesling with terrific acidity. Loved it.
Neverstill Reserve Dry Riesling 2023 is exceptional. Nicknamed in-house the 'Wild' Riesling, the wine was made with native fermentation using indigenous yeasts from their estate vineyard, Hidden View. This wine is made with the third Riesling grape (Clone 239). The vine features smaller, more concentrated berries and also benefits from maceration on the skins. A big, complex Riesling with bold, complex flavors.
Neverstill combines the best of the Finger Lakes with the location of the Hudson Valley. A lovely addition to the wine scene. Congrats, Christy.
