Stony Run Estate Vineyard Gruner Veltliner

Larry Shrawder owns Stony Run Winery in Kempton, PA. He is also a long-time grape grower. Located in Breingingsville, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley AVA. They more than 50 acres of grapes. It's located in the Allentown region and is about 4o minutes away from Galen Glen.

Larry Shrawder was born and raised in a traditional farm family in Kempton. With his business partner, Garrett Schorran, Stony Run has Vineyards in Albany, Greenwich and Upper Macungie townships. It is a diversified agricultural operation consisting of 22 varieties of grapes, heirloom open pollinated corn varieties, rye and hay.

“Our preserved farm is almost half Vineyards and half crop land. The steeper, highly erodible, shale soils are ideally suited for grape production and are not disturbed for decades while the grass row middles, dramatically reduce soil erosion and run off. The cropland is no-till and minimum till contour farmed using crop rotation."

I recently brought a bottle of this over to Stephen Casscles house for a dinner, where both enjoyed it.
Stony Brook Winery Gruner Vertliner crisp and bright, started with a nose-full of green apple, with floral notes, and touches of citrus, gooseberry and white pepper. Lovely acidity kept the wine lively long after I swallowed it. This is a great food wine. Had it with roasted butternut squash, roasted Brussel sprouts, white parsnips, and fresh home made bread. A very, very pretty wine. Looking forward to trying more Stony Run!
