I am waaaay behind writing this review. I owe an apology to winemaker Marin Brennan. In late April I enjoyed this bottle of wine with acclaimed winemaker and author Stephen Casscles. We were both absolutely entranced by it.
The Chardonnay was wild yeast fermented in stainless steel tanks. Marin scoured the Long Island shoreline for seashells. The harvested shells were washed/rinsed with fresh water, taking off any debris or sand. The seashells were dropped into the stainless steel tanks for two months. The result is an amazing wine with expressive notes of tropical fruit, honeysuckle, pears, and apples, and a terrific zippy acidity that is couched with a lovely, underlying salinity. The wine is incredibly sophisticated, light and delectable. Not heavy handed or over done. And it's absolutely a romantic bottle (my tasting partner not withstanding). An absolutely mouth-watering wine!!!
Marin Brennan continues to shine as one of the real young and wonderful up coming stars of east coast winemaking.
How can you not be romantic about wine? Especially this one! Cheers!
