On the last day of judging at Camp Good Days Finger Lakes International Wine & Spirits Competition we judges were introduced to this cadre of superlative meads. They were all made by the same company - Miel Nature Inc. of Quebec. With more than 304 medals accumulated in various international wine contests, Miel Nature Inc is a pioneer in mead production. I am only a casual fan of meads, as were made of the judges at my table. But we were all blown away by the quality and flavor of these four meads.
Easily among the best to me was the WC Cuvee Imperiale. This was a honey wine fortified with Canadian whisky. It had a cream sherry like quality, but was absolutely superlative, with notes of honey, caramel and nuttiness to boot. Not super sweet, but an exceptional liqueur. Fantastic!
Washington Post wine scribe Dave McIntyre was also impressed.
Loved the honey and pear wine. This was exceptional. The wine itself smelled and tasted like fresh pears. Such an incredibly hard flavor and aroma to get across in any kind of alcoholic beverage, this was a shock and a pleasure. Immensely fragrant, like fresh cut pears, and sugar delicious.
The Petillant Fraises, Framboises, and Poemmes was an absolute winner! A fresh bowl of raspberries and strawberries, with a lovely, bountiful bouquet (like fresh fruit doused in light wine) with a lovely frizzante touch. Absolutely refreshing, with zippy acidity. Astounding. (Also available in cans!)
W C Rose et spines is a lovely mead flavored with blackberries and rose petals. Again, the nose was bouquet of fresh fruit with floral notes. A wonderful dessert wine with lovely acidity to match it's sweetness so it was never cloying. Wonderful wine. A terrific, well balanced, fresh dessert wine.
All of these wines, which were introduced, won medals, and absolutely wowed many judges! Absolutely worth seeking otu!
