Warwick Valley Winery was among the first to revive cidermaking in the Hudson Valley and to revive distilling in the region as well. And during that time, they became one of the most popular wine and cider destinations in the region. Located in Warwick, in Orange County, the winery features a bakery and pizza oven. And a seemingly endless carousel of musical acts. Civilized and bucolic. It's a real treat.
Doc's Cider is one of the most ubiquitously available ciders made in the Hudson Valley. They make a slew of tasty ciders, and certainly some of my favorites. But this seasonal cider, the Doc's Pumpkin Cider is among my favorites. I'm not usually a pumpkin spice fan, but the real secret to this delicious cider is that it is made with roasted local pumpkins. Yes, it has classic cinnamon, allspice, fresh ginger and nutmeg, but it's not an overwhelming spice bomb. You can taste the roasted pumpkin. And the spices are a nice accompaniment. It's bright and lovely, with notes of green apple and baked apple, with notes of bread, vanilla, and a hint of toffee. One of the best pumpkin products in the marketplace.
Cider has never tasted so close to pumpkin pie. Fresh roasted local pumpkin has never tasted so good!
