In 1993, Scott Osborn and his wife Ruth purchased Fox Run Vineyard. It was a small winery, and the Osborn's completely reinvented it, expanded it, improved it, until Fox Run and Scott are at the center of New York wine. He helped create a new image for the region and New York wine. It has been a remarkable ride. In there, he hired several of the region's legendary winemakers, especially Peter Bell. With Bell's retirement, Scott has seen a smooth transition to current winemaker Craig Hosbach. Today, Fix Run's wines are available in more than 30 states, And Scott is among the smartest and accomplished people in Eastcoast wine.
The "Kaiser Vineyard" is the famous estate parcel located at Fox Run Vineyards on the west-central shores of Seneca Lake. Planted in 1984 by vineyard manager John Kaiser and his father, these vines are now designated as some of the region's few "Old Vines". Fox Run Kaiser Vineyard Reserve Chardonnay, a cool-climate, lightly oaked white wine, is the winery's flagship wine. The winemaker is Craig Hosbach.
The Fox Run Kaiser Vineyard Reserve Chardonnay 2022 is something special. The wine opens with fresh green apple, fresh cut pear, tropical fruits, and floral notes, as well as honeysuckle. There's also a nice pop of pineapple. Creamy smooth in the middle, with a hint of wet slate, but with enough bright acidity to keep those notes going well through when the sip is finished. Complexity, layers, balance. A wonderful quality cool-climate Chardonnay that delivers beautifully.
Fox Run Kaiser Vineyard Reserve Chardonnay 2022 is a wine people need to talk more about.
