With Lenn Thompson of The Cork Report, Keith Beavers of Vinepair, and Allison Slute of Cabernet Franc Chronicles we recently tastes more than 50 east coast Cabernet Francs. One of the wines that that I enjoyed was the Galen Glen Cabernet Franc 2023.
The Troxell family of Galen Glen Winery in Schuylkill County run one for the best wineries on the east coast. Estate fruit. Good people. Great wines. Galen is a great guy, and an excellent farmer. Erin is a breath of fresh air, bringing great change to the winery. And Sarah is among my favorite winemakers on the east coast - her whites like her Riesling, Gruner Veltliner, and Gewurztraminer are among some of the best produced in North America. Alternately, I do like their red blend - Red German Bastards.
The Galen Glen Cabernet Franc 2023 is a medium bodied red, with surprisingly deep color, has a lovely floral-ness to the start of the wine, notes of bright sour cherry, red raspberry, and red cassis. Notes of graphite, plum, and bramble. Lovely acidity. I found I liked it better after it had a chance to breathe, which I don't always get a chance to do. But it made a big difference here. Lovely, soft, approachable finish. An absolutely delicious wine!!!
One of the best wines of the tasting. Loved it.
Nothing better than a summer visit to Galen Glen!!!
