I've written a lot about 61 Vineyard recently, and very deservedly so. Located in Damascus, Maryland, the winery makes all estate wines. And they are very special. I tasted this most recent wine, the 61 Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc at the Maryland Governor's Cup tasting in Frederick, Maryland some time last month. There were many, many wines. But this Sauvignon Blanc was something special.
The 61 Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2025 is quite possibly the most aromatic Sauvignon Blanc I have ever tasted on the east coast. Passion fruit and guava exploded out of my glass, along with notes of grapefruit and lime, as well as a hint of lemongrass. On the palate lime, grapefruit, white peach, passion fruit, green apple, and gooseberry all combined to give the wine an incredible flavor and complexity. And the acidity was terrific making this an exceptional wine.
My hats off the the folks at 61 Vineyard. I tasted well more than 100 wines over a two week period, this had to be among the highest of standout wines.
