THE CORK REPORT Includes ECW in Best Wines of 2025

Lenn Thompson of The Cork Report published a list of best east coast wines from other industry writes. I was thrilled to be included in this list. "Over the next few weeks, I’m going to have plenty of “XYZ of the year”-type content coming your way—but today I want to kick that off with a roundup of “East Coast Wines of the Year” from some of my friends in and around the East Coast wine world," wrote Lenn. "It’s a diverse group of people and wines—which makes sense because that has always been a core strength of wine in the East."

A talented list of writers was assembled. Was thrilled to be inlcuded:
Keith Beavers, VinePair
Emily Cappiello, Freelance Writer
Adrienne Cooper, A Barrel Above
Kara Daly, Wine is Confusing
Carlo DeVito, East Coast Wineries
Dave McIntyre, Dave McIntyre’s WineLine
Reggie Leonard, Oenoverse
Frank Morgan, Drink What You Like
Warren Richard, Virginia Wine Time
Robin Shreeves, Drink Local
Paul Vigna, PennLive
Amy Zavatto, Northforker

Carlo DeVito, East Coast Wineries: Fjord Vineyards 2023 Cabernet Franc (New York)

Fjord Vineyards co-owners Matthew Spaccarelli and Casey Edrmann have created one of the best wineries in New York State and the East Coast. Fjord produces high-quality, cult-status wines with great flavor and great complexity. Matt has a way with Cabernet Franc. His wines are not overpowered by new oak; instead, he always goes for a brighter, softer, more approachable red wine.

Fjord Vineyards Estate Cabernet Franc 2023, Hudson River Region, is 100% estate-grown Cabernet Franc (within sight of the great waterway). The wine was aged 8 months in 2-5 year old 500L French oak puncheons. This Cabernet Franc had a deep color and yet exhibited rich and concentrated notes of violets and dark berries. There were notes of spice on the palate along with fruit notes of blueberries and cherries. Incredibly complex and well-balanced, this wine was soft on the end and amazingly drinkable. Delicate. Well balanced. Complexed. Layered. Iconic.
