Since I first started writing about East Coast wines more than 20 years ago, one of my first loves was Red Newt Winery (which Dave Whiting had just opened). They never failed to impress since then. On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Nena and Lenn Thompson and Michael Gorton Jr. and I tasted many wines. This was one of them
Red Newt Cellars Tango Oaks Vineyard Riesling Icewine 2017 from the Finger Lake was one of those wines. And it stood out absolutely beautifully. This highly-rated, lusciously sweet, concentrated dessert wine, exuded intense apricot, peach, honey, and citrus flavors, with other tropical notes, and a hint of petrol, also exhibited lively acidity. This was an unctuous, rich, and well-balance dessert wine with long-lasting finish. A perfect ending to a dinner, to to the end of the day.
Spectacular.
