Dan Bissell is the Head Winemaker at Keuka Spring Vineyards in Penn Yan. He has been the head winemaker since the 2021 vintage, having joined the winery in 2020 as an assistant winemaker. I love their Estate and Reserve wines. A long time fan. While at the New York State Liquor Store Association tasting at the Crown Plaza Albany Desmond, I recently tasted three wines from their Classic Collection, which is the more widely available of this classic Finger Lakes house. It was a triple play! Loved all three!
The Keuka Spring Vineyards Classic Riesling 2024 blends fruit from the winery's local top growers. The result is a fragrant, bright, refreshing Riesling with notes of tropical fruit and petrol. Terrific flavors. The acidity makes sure that this wine lingers on the palate for a long time after each sip. Really lovely.
Keuka Spring Vineyards Classic Gewürztraminer 2023 is a super aromatic wine, exploding with green apple, pineapple, tangerine, and floral notes. Complex and well balanced. A terrific, delicate and delicious Gewurztraminer.
Keuka Spring Vineyards Classic Cabernet Franc 2023 is aged 13 months in oak after fermentation in neutral barrels. Big notes of cherry, dark raspberry, hints of cassis, with a silky smooth middle,, and a terrific finish with just enough tannins and black pepper to make this red wine finish bone dry yet fruity in the middle. Layer after laayer of aromas and flavors. A wonderful Finger Lakes New York State Cabernet Franc. A real win, and one of my favorite wines of the tasting.
