There are many good Albarino wines being made at this time on the east coast. From Greenvale VInesyards in Rhode Island (very good) to the Hudson Valley, to New Jersey (Hawk Haven Vineyards; White Horse Vineyards; and others) as well as Maryland (Boordy Vineyards and Old Westminster as well as others) and Virginia (Ingelside Vineyards, Blenhein among others).
But this year's absolute hands down winner is Fjord Vineyard's Albarino Hudson River Region 2024. An estate white, this wine is everything you want out of your Albarino. It has a bright floral nose, with notes of green apple, citrus and tropical fruits. It has an incredibly bright, zippy acidity that makes it sing. And the flavor lasts, and lasts, and lasts. Refreshing. Complex. Layered. A spectacular wine.
It is my East Coast Albarino of the Year!
