Sparkling Pointe Seduction 2014 - Sparkling Perfection

Giles Martin is one of my favorite winemakers on the island. He has more than 25 years of national and international experience. He knows his science, but he is equal part artist. He's an award winning winemaker. Martin blends is the best at blending classic old world techniques and innovation and creativity.

Born at the gates of the Champagne region, Gilles headed to the South of France in the Languedoc wine region to obtain an engineering degree in biology and food sciences as well as a prestigious Masters of Oenology from the University of Montpellier. His 1986 Master thesis on the technology of wine ultra-filtration won national acclaim and a first prize, awarded in person, by former France president Jacques Chirac. He has been at Sparkling Pointe since it's inception.

Recently, I caught up with him at Eastern Wineries Exposition 2025 in Lancaster, PA. He was pouring several of his wines. I loved the Sparkling Pointe Brut 2019. Made from 50% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir, 14% Pinot Meunier, that ages for three years sur lie. This is an excellent, super drinkable wine. Fresh young fruit, great acidity, and lovely complexity.

The Sparkling Pointe Brut Seduction 2014 sat on the lees for almost 8 years. It's a classic blend of  Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier. This was a ten year old wine!  The wine in the glass is a deep gold color with strings of tiny tiny bubbles. On the nose, it has fantastic notes green apple, lemon, honeysuckle, and ripe pear. There's also some baking spice, and a lovely hint of warm, fresh bread. On the palate it's fresh apple, Bosc pear, lemon custard, and spices. This is a spectacular sparkling wine, with great flavor, tremendous elegance, and wonderful flavors. The fruits lasts a long time in the mouth, and is bone, bone dry. A tremendous wine that would sparkle in any region.  Fantastic job, Gilles! Perfection!
