FANTASTIC! THE WINE COLLECTIVE IS WHERE INNOVATION MEETS GREAT WINE! AND VERMOUTH! (MD)

The Wine Collective opened in 2020, founded by Enrique Pallares, with his wife, his brother Felipe and their partner, ubiquitous winemaker John Levenberg and his wife. It's one of several businesses that make up the Union Collective in Hampden, in Baltimore, Maryland.

An urban winery, the large space is crammed with a combination of urban chic and industrial might. Large silver tanks line large portions of the seemingly never ending space. Large groupings of barrels store wine, and act as walls, creating small living rooms of space accentuated by fancy rugs and plush sofas and chairs. It's all incredibly handsome.

The stylish copper bar is well appointed amidst this swirl of the comfortable and the industrial. It is as beautiful as it is opulent.  And it is very functional. One can order small plates, vermouth based cocktails, and experience exceptional wine tastings.

Enrique and Felipe at the bar. These two  Ecuadorian brothers (who have lived seemingly all over the world) are making absolutely super wines from grapes grown through out the Mid-Atlantic only. An urban winery without a vineyard of their own, they purchase grapes from MD. NJ. VA. PA.

Absolutely stunning Viognier. Terrific red blend. Amazing Cab Franc. And absolutely outrageous vermouth!! Best I have had from the east coast. Real Spanish/Portuguese styled vermouth.

I was introduced to then Maryland wine chief, Kevin Atticks, who is now the Maryland Secretary of Agriculture. Always a boon traveling companion. And a great fellow and promoter of all things Maryland.

The brothers.

Not only were the wines exceptional, but the Vermouths were sublime! Some of the best vermouths I have ever had! Hard to believe these came from the east coast!

The Wine Collective offers a menu of Vermouth cocktails that are surprising as they are immensely drinkable!
