Peter Becraft is among my favorite winemakers in the Finger Lakes. On my most recent trip there I stopped in to sample at Anthony Road Wine Company, on Seneca Lake, in Penn Yan.
Anthony Road Pinot Noir 2023 starts off with giant breeze of violets and bright and stewed dark cherries. Notes of bramble and plum are also present in the ligh-to-medium bodies red wine. There’s lovely notes of vanilla and dried cherries, as well as slate and a perfect dose of red raspberry and stewed strawberry. It’s got lovely finish of white pepper and English Breakfast tea. The cherries and other berries linger on. Balanced by a terrific acidity this wine is incredibly well balanced and the seems fresh and goes down easy.
Peter is doing wonderful things at Anthony Road and this Pinot Noir is one of them.
