Sannino Vineyard is owned and operated by Anthony and Lisa Sannino, founded in 2006. They own 21 acres of vineyards. The winery has had a good reputation for quality red wines. I recently saw Anthony at the Cab Franc Forward event in New York City this past February. Jovial and friendly, Anthony is always fun to hang with.
Cabernet Franc has been a hallmark of the Saninno lineup for more than 15 years. While there I tasted the Sannino Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2022. The wine is 75% Cabernet Franc, 12.5% Petit Verdot, and 12.5% Merlot. I know some may say its practically a blend, but it still qualifies under guidelines to be called a Cab Franc. Truth be told, I like wines, generally speaking that have a little of something else - it usually makes them deeper, more complex, and in many cases offers balance. That is the case with this new release.
This wine is a big, deep wine, red with hints of purple, and notes of black cherry, dark raspberry, black currant, and touches of prune and fig. There's also a deep bramble. And lovely savory notes, as well as a good gripping black pepper ending. And the fruit lasts a nice long time.
Sannino continues to succeed with this exceptional flagship bottling. Congrats to Anthony and Lisa.
