The mother-daughter team of Claudia and Gabriella Purita now run One Woman Winery located in SOuthold, Long Island is a small boutique winery that I have adored for many years. I don't always get a chance to get out there, unfortunately, but I am never disappointed when I do. .Claudia founded the winery In the past I have been a big big fan of their Gewurztraminer and Gruner Veltliner. Elegant, sophisticated wines. Really premiere.
Claudia planted the first vines in 2004, opened a tasting room in 2009, and the first estate wines were first released for the 2007 vintage. The tasting room is small, but drinking outside on the patio or in the gardens is always peaceful and tranquil. Now they have a major new tasting room and music venue.
While at the Cab Franc Forward event in New York City at the beginning of February, I met daughter Gabriella while I tasted the past two vintages of their Cabernet Franc. The One Woman Cabernet Franc 2020 was one of the better Cab Franc of the tasting. Really shown. With darker fruits of cherry, dark raspberry, and red currants, this wine had notes of bramble, spice, and cracked pepper, this lovely, elegant red wine was medium bodied but sophisticated and elegant. A terrific wine.
The One WOman Cabernet Franc 20222 was also impressive. Again, a medium bodied wine, with fresh fruit, but with a n old world, European elegance. Notes of dark cherry, red raspberry, touches of bramble and cedar and slate, with a touch of white pepper at the finish. A wine meant for food - and I mean that as a complete compliment. While this would make a fine tasting room show pony, this is a wine that requires a meal, and friends or family.
