Two Impressive Reds from Sannino Vineyards

Confession. I don't see Anthony Sannino enough. Certainly not as much as I should. A talented boutique winemaker on Long Island, Sannino has been part of the island's winemaking scene for as long as I can remember. And always making quality wines. Of all places, I recently saw him in Lancaster, PA, at the Eastern Winery Exposition 2025, where he shared a few of his wines with me.

Lisa and Anthony Sannino first purchased a 5-acre vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot vines in the rural town of Cutchogue, NY, on Long Island. They continued to expand, and by now, their four children, Marisa, Miranda, Francesco, and Ava Grace make it a family affair. Anthony took classes with US Davis California, and is the winemaker.

The Sannnino Vineyards Prima Rosso Red Wine 2022 is a Bordeaux-styled red that opens with floral aromas surrounded by cherries and red raspberry. Lightly stewed Bing cherry and lovely tannins offer an excellent balance, as well as tasting experience. A terrific food wine. A bottle that can be proudly served to family and friends for a delicious lunch or dinner....or just sipping.
Now, for those looking for that big, special bottle, you've found it. Sannino Vineyards Spotlight Petit Verdot 2022 is made from Petit Verdot picked from the Sannino Bella Vita Vineyard, I LOVE a big Petiti Verdot. And if you do too, this is a wine for you. Dark stewed erries and a few floral notes, as well as a bit of vanilla waft through the nose. Then the wine opens up on the palate with dark cherry, blackberry, bramble, with lovely notes of prune and cassis. A great big tannin finish balances this big, unctuous wine beautifully. Complex and well balanced, this wine is meant to impress. And it does!
Exquisite.
