In the Fall of last year, I had an amazing tasting at Linganore Winecellars with Melissa Aellen and Eric Aellen and Ray Mitcham, and Dan. Loved the wines, especially the Chardonnay, Saperavi, Petite Verdot and many others. It was a really impressive lineup! Also loved the new Simple Theory wines as well. What a terrific lineup!!! Great vineyard management and great winemaking.
If one wine stood out to me, it was the Linganore Winecellars Petit Verdot 2021. I'm a big fan of PV, and in the mid-Atlantic, ie. NJ, MD, and Virginia, PV does very well. But this Linganore Winecellars, from Maryland, showed exceptional promise. The wine is 100% Petite Verdot, all estate, and aged for 16 months in older oak. The resulting wine is a deep purple, with a lovely fruit forward attack, with great acidity and grippy tannins, which gives the wine backbone and structure. This wine begs for charred meat, or spicy dishes. I absolutely loved this wine.
Really special things are happening here!
