Outstanding - Mazzaroth Estate Tannat

I first had Mazzaroth Estate wines during our Local Wine/Taste Camp trip to Maryland back in 2017. Located in the Catoctin AVA, their first planting had been in April 2011. They have a 2-acre vineyard. Today they grow Vidal Blanc, Albarino, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon,  and Tannat.

I remember being wow-ed by their small, excellent selection for the fledgling young winery. Their Maryland Vidal Blanc won me over instantly. It was so well made, so grown up, I was amazed.

Fast forward to Eastern Wineries Exposition 2024, and I saw a bottle of Mazzaroth at the Maryland table at the event's grand tasting. I was intrigued. The wine is predominantly Tannat, with touches of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. This is all estate fruit.

This is a big red wine, with dark cherries, dark raspberries, and cassis up front. Light hints of mocha and tobacco. Big tannins and are balanced by lovely acidity. The wine winds together in a big, dark swirl that will make you forget your troubles. And the flavor lasts a long, long time, leaving you wanting more.

Absolutely outstanding!
