In the Holiday 2023 issue of The Southforker magazine, Amy Zavatto did a tremendous piece on Long Island sparkling wine. I have a long time crush on Amy. She is simply one of the best writers on wines, beers, spirits and food in the New York City region.
If you don't know her, here's a little bit about her:
Amy is a prominent wine, spirits and food journalist creating fresh content that digs deep. She revolutionized cocktail and wine menus, as well as consumer content for restaurants and wine and spirits purveyors. She's a respected judge for critical competitions in both spirits and wine on the national and regional levels, including the New York Wine & Food Festival and the American Craft Spirits Association. She's also a recognized book author and expert on spirits, wine, and wine and food pairing. Notorious spirits sleuth in the realm of craft distilling. Some of her books include: The Big Book of Bourbon: 100 Timeless, Creative and Tempting Recipes (Rock Ridge Press, December 2019), Prosecco Made Me Do It (Andrews McMeel), Forager's Cocktails (Sterling Publishing), Architecture of the Cocktail (Race Point Publishing), Hedonist Guide to Eat NY (Filmore Publishing), The Complete Idiot's Guide to Bartending (Penguin-Putnam), The Renaissance Guide to Wine & Food Pairing (Penguin-Putnam)Amy is a member of the New York chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier, and the former Executive Director of the Long Island Merlot Alliance, leading the charge in education and promotion of one of the most important East Coast grape varietals.
