CORK REPORT SOUNDS CALL EAST COAST WINERIES FOR CABERNET FRANC BOOK!

draft1-small

THE CORK REPORT published by Lenn Thompson is calling all East Coast Wineries for a major prospective on east coast Cabernet Franc! This is a big new exciting endeavor for THE CORK REPORT as the final publication will be in book form! This will be an exciting new publication. A great opportunity to promote east coast wine and showcase the mot popularly grown estate redup and down the east coast! - C. DeVito

FROM THE CORK REPORT:

As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, I’m not doing a rosé report this year.  Instead, I’m going to try something a little different — create a standalone publication dedicated to cabernet franc. The 2017 East Coast Cabernet Franc Report will include not only tasting notes but vintage charts and information, as well as information about East Coast cabernet franc in general. For the purposes of most anything I do, “East Coast” just means anything not made on the West Coast. As always, I want to cover the regions that don’t already get coverage in every single magazine every single month.

I’m also excited to report that this will be published both as a PDF and in printed magazine format. Both will be available for purchase sometime this summer.

This is definitely something new for me, but I want to see how self-publishing a report like this works — both in terms of the logistics but also in reaching an extended audience — and the best way to do that is to publish one.

I probably don’t have to tell you why I’m choosing cabernet franc for this experiment. It’s a grape that makes great wine throughout North America. That it’s a personal favorite is just a bonus this time out.

Recognizing that this could get rather unwieldy, this report will be focused on wines that meet these criteria:

Only wines from 2014-2016 vintages will be included
Only wines varietally labeled as Cabernet Franc (or that could be, legally) will be included
Only wines made from fruit grown in the same state as the winery where it was made will be included
Any wines submitted will be tasted not only by me, but by a small group of wine professionals including sommeliers, winemakers and other members of the trade. All wines will also be considered for other writing projects on and off of this blog.

My goal is to begin tasting in May and wines have already arrived from across New York, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

If you’re a winery that would like your wine to be included or someone in the wine industry who would like to maybe be on one of my tasting panels, please email me.
