Truro Vineyards was established in 1991, near Cape Cod, when the first
2,000 vines were planted. They are the only vinifera growing vineyard in the
region. Their sandy soil, warm ocean breezes and temperate climate combine to
produce grapes with intense flavor and lush varietal character. On their 5 acre
farm they grow Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, all of which are
hand-picked by them come harvest time. The winemakers are Matyas Vogel and David
Roberts Jr.
2011 Truro Vineyards Chardonnay is 100% Chardonnay fermented in small American oak barrels
with frequent battonage (stirring) by hand and extended aging on the lees. This is a classic Burgundy styled Chardonnay. Ripe apples and pears come across on the nose as well as melon, honeysuckle and whiffs of vanilla and butterscotch. The acidity is lovely, and carries the fruit forward for a nice long finish.
A lovely, classic Chardonnay. Well done, gentlemen!
When you are out on the cape this summer, make sure to stop by Truro Vineyards!
