While I was at the New Jersey fall wine festival last year I could not resist to taste the Hopewell Valley Chambourcin 2010. It has always been among my favorites. Hopewell Valley is an incredible quality focused producer of fabulous dry red wines. And this Chambourcin is among the main reasons I love their line.
It's big, deep, and red. But it's not one of those purple-y fruit bombs that mny other wineries sugar up and sell with somewhere between 1.5-4% residual sugar. Nope. This is a barrel-aged red wine with lots of ripe cherry, hints of cassis, long, lovely vanilla, and a nice touch of acid and tannin for balanace. A truly lovely wine. Much more Italian in inspiration than anything I have ever had. A truly amazing, remarkable bottle of wine.
