STONINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- Who needs Napa Valley when you can taste some of the most exciting wines here in Connecticut?
It is one of
the fastest growing wine regions in the U.S., and across the state 25 wineries
make up the CT Wine Trail . Two are in the shoreline town of Stonington.
In existence
since 1987, Stonington Vineyards is one
of the oldest wineries in the state. The latest winemaking technology and
traditional barrel methods is its mainstay. From vineyard to bottle, their
production hits about 5,000 cases annually.
The love
affair with wine is just as intense at Saltwater Farm , where an old airfield
has transformed into a wine-tasting vineyard and bird-watching mecca. The
restored WWII hangar also serves as a winery which produces about 1,500 cases a
year, selling to the local economy and on-premise.
The grapes
at both these vineyards provide more than just wine; they also are a beautiful
backdrop for weddings, wine-tastings, and tours.
Break out a
glass and enjoy the moment.
