Harford Vintage Vidal Blanc - Lovely! (MD)

Recently, I was luck enough to try the Harford Vintage Vidal Blanc from Harford Vineyard & Winery.

Harford Vineyard and Winery, located in the heart of the Piedmont wine trail region of Harford County, Maryland. HV was founded in 2003 when Vidal and Traminette grapes were planted, then 2005 Merlot. They supplement our own production by purchases of a small amount of high quality grapes from other growers.

According to Christine Adkins, of Maryland Life Magazine, “Harford Vineyard and Winery began as a supply stop for home winemakers almost ten years ago. Three years ago, the business expanded into the multifaceted winery it is today. Kevin Mooney, the vineyard’s winemaker and inspiration behind the business, originally hoped to go into the commercial grape-growing business. But with only three acres of vines and the typical commercial grower harvesting 10+ acres, Kevin and his wife Teresa began their journey into the world of home winemaking and wine production.”

“This was my husband’s dream,” wife Teresa told Adkins. Theresa had never thought of going into viticulture. “He always wanted to be in this business.”

According to Adkins, “After several years of offering winemaking classes, supplies and expertise, Kevin decided their future was in producing and selling their own products, something they couldn’t do under a homemaker’s license.”

“We still want to cater to home winemaking, but his main focus in the winery,” explained Teresa.

In May 2009 they officially became a Winery and specialize in limited production of finely crafted wines. Harford Vineyard currently has 10 wines to select from.

I was very happy to get my hands on a bottle of Harford Vintage Vidal Blanc. Harford’s Vidals have proven very successful bringing home bling from several different competitions. This was an excellent wine. Light, highly acidic, very dry, and absolutely refreshing. I love dry Vidal Blanc, and this was an excellent version of the wine. Zippy. Citrusy. Fabulous!!! Definitely worth seeking out.
