Arrowhead Spring Vineyards 2008 Arrowhead Red Meritage

Duncan Ross is dedicated to making great wine. He is passionate about it. And so is his wife Robin. Arrowhead Spring Vineyards is dedicated to making great wine in the Niagara Escarpment. Duncan is a strong supporter of promoting fine, quality winemaking in New York state. He is passionate about that subject as well.

Arrowhead Spring Vineyards has garnered excellent reviews, especially from places like Wine Spectator and the New York Cork Report. Their dessert wine got a 90! Duncan is a technology management consultant, and Robin grew up on a farm. So their life together is both hectic and involved. Duncan is the winemaker, and Robin runs the sales side.

Recently, I was lucky enough to come upon a bottle of 2008 Arrowhead Red Meritage.
It's a blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. The wine has been barrel aged for 23 months.

When I came home the other night, I told Domnique that we both truly deserved something special. It was time to try the Arrowhead Red. Dominique had made a shepherd's pie. But this was a gourmet shepherd's pie, with all kinds of spcies, and a mix of vegetables, meat, and cheese in a crust. It was really something quite special.

The wine was a dark purple-reddish wine. The nose was full of plums, lots of prune, and dark raspberry and a hint of dark cherry. There was also a whiff of vanilla as well. The wine itself was a solidly extracted wine, with the prunes coming through front and cnter, with plum and raspberry also showing nicely. It was exceptional on the front of the palate. There was nice acid to balance out those flavors, and very nice medium tannins. This was an excellent wine, full of flavor and beauty.

A great wine at a great price! Get to Arrowhead Spring Vineyards and buy it up fast!
