2008 Block E Dessert Wine from Macari Vineyards of Long Island, New York Served at the 2011 White House Governor’s Dinner

Macari Vineyards of Long Island’s 2008 Block E dessert wine was served at the 2011 Governor’s Dinner on February 27, 2011 hosted by President Obama. This is the third occasion that the winery has been selected for a pairing at the White House – Macari’s 1997 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay was served under the Clinton administration at a dinner for His Excellency Zhu Rongji Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China on April 8, 1999. It was also served at a luncheon hosted by Hillary Clinton in honor of the Spouses of the Members of the North Atlantic Council on April 24, 1999.

Macari Vineyards 2008 Block E is crafted in the ice wine style by consulting Austrian winemaker Helmut Gangl. Macari’s 2008 Block E is a blend of 69% Viognier and 31% Pinot Gris. Exotic aromas of mango, peach and nectarine along with balanced acidity, medium body and long finish make a perfect dessert or pairing for any last course. The 2008 Block E is available at select New York retail stores and at the Macari Vineyards in Mattituck and Cutchogue, NY and is distributed by Angels’ Share Wines.

Macari Vineyards, located on the North Fork of Eastern Long Island in Mattituck, is owned and operated by the Macari Family. The business is led by owners Joseph Macari Sr. and his wife, Katherine, and Joseph Macari Jr., who is at the helm of the winery with his wife, Alexandra. Winemaker Kelly Urbanik leads the winemaking team.

Congrats to all!
