Bordeleau Merlot 2006

Bordeleau Vineyards and Winery owner and winemaker Tom Shelton is involved in creating, experimenting, managing and perfecting his award-winning wines. He is particular about everything. From the delicate de-leafing of vines around clusters of grapes, to the operation of a bottle washer, to the shades of color on bottle labels, Tom takes a hands-on approach to growing grapes and producing wines.

In the summer of 2008, Bordeleau opened in Eden, Maryland. It was Wicomico County’s first licensed winery and tasting room. Now, their wines are distributed through local restaurants and retail outlets. Competitions and festivals are also bringing additional recognition.

I found a bottle to taste at the recent Wineries Unlimited Opening Night Tasting Reception. Unfortunately Tom was nowhere to be found.

The bottle I found was the 2006 Merlot. There was lots of cherry, raspberry up front and flavors of plums and raisins linger. A touch of mocha too. There was a wonderful mouthfeel . It was smooth. Nice balance. A nice dry finish.
