James Molesworth Awards Three More Finger Lake Wines 90s!
In the January 31 to February 28, 2010 issue of Wine Spectator, James Molesworth awards three scores of 90 or better.
Dr. Konstantin Frank Riesling Finger Lakes Late Harvest Bunch Select 2008 received a 92!
Sheldrake Point Riesling Finger Lakes Ice Wine 2008 rcieved a 91!
Sheldrake Point Riesling Finger Lakes Late Harvest 2008 received a 90!
These were followed by a whole rash of Finger Lakes wines that scored between 85 and 88 points, including Atwater's Estate Riesling Finger Lakes Dry 2008 (88); Lakwood Riseling Finger Lakes 2008 (88); Lakewood Riesling Finger Lakes Dry 2008 (87); Wagner scored a pair of 87s for their Riesling Finger Lakes Semi-Dry and Dry; Hosmer scored an 86 for their Chardonnay; and Casa Larga's Riesling; Fox Run's Merlot; Hunt Country's Riesling Semi Dry and Knapp Riesling Dry all took home 85s.
I can remember a time when reporting anything over 85 was a big deal for Long Island and the Finger Lakes four or five years ago (have I been doing this that long?!). It has been impressive to watch the wines gain strength and clarity and delicacy, and at the same time, it has been impressive to see the Spectator and Mr. Molesworth show enormous presence in choosing these wines, and for their recognition of the Finger Lakes as a region that can and does produce world class wines.
Congrats to Dr. Konstatin Frank, and to Sheldrake Point, and to the Finger Lakes region. Drink and enjoy!
And a toast to the Wine Spectator and Mr. Molesworth!
