Ray Tousey is a farmer and a beekeeper in Germantown, New York, at the bottom of Columbia County. He is well known in those parts. He is a ubiquitous presence at farm markets in Columbia and Dutchess counties.

From honey to candles, and bulk beeswax for soap and candle crafters, Ray Tousey and his bees add their unique products to the markets. Kids love to check out Ray’s live bee display and vintage truck. Ray also features a variety of small fruits: currants, gooseberries, raspberries, and heirloom tomatoes. Ray brings hand-made fruit juices, preserves, and his own unique brand of cassis sweetened with honey, not sugar.

The winemaker is Bruce Tripp. As well as their wonderful cassis, Bruce and Ray also made 2008 Hudson River Region Vidal Blanc. I love Vidal Blanc, and this is a good one. Light, with just a touch of sweetness and great fruit, the wine is fabulous. Crisp. Clean. Bright. Try it if you can. It's only available at farm markets in the area. Excellent!
