Most recently I had the Palaia Vineyards Merlot, at the Hudson Valley Wine and Grape Association Aawards dinner for 2009. It was fabulous!
Palaia is a small, micro-producer in the valley, and they've been getting lots of good ink lately. And it's much deserved.
It was a light-to-medium bodied, soft claret red, with lovely fruit up front, and soft mouthfeel, with a dry finish. It really was lovely.
The sun was setting and the light was gorgeous, as we looked at the Catskills with the sun settling in behind the mountain range.
And the Palaia went down nice and easy...I just kept on sipping.
